5 Times Bengaluru proved it's India's R&D hub

 

1 CISCO

Cisco houses one of its Global Development Centre in Bengaluru, which happens to be the largest one outside of the United States. The centre is home to Cisco’s Research and Development (R&D), IT, Services and Customer Support teams. It develops disruptive business models for Cisco to create new go-to-market channels, markets, processes and technologies for emerging markets¹.

Key customers across India, among others, include2:

1. Corporate – Tata Group, Mahindra and Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro, Gas Authority of India
2. Service Providers – Tata, Reliance, Bharti, Vodafone
3. IT Services – Infosys, Wipro, IBM, Adobe, Intel, HCL

Cisco’s annual investments in India stood at US$ 1.7 bn in as of 2014 and has generated US$ 1.1 bn for FY 2013-14³.

2 ROLLS ROYCE

Rolls Royce began operations in India over 85 years ago by powering the first civil and military aircraft¹.

Rolls Royce opened its new engineering centre in Bangalore in 2015². It focuses on aerospace projects and supports the development of new tools and technologies, including contributing to global design and processes³.

Rolls Royce also set up R² Data Labs in Bengaluru along with Tata Consultancy Services – a strong digital analytics and application development hub⁴. These labs help Rolls Royce develop new services that improve the way both Rolls Royce and their customers operate⁵.

Bengaluru also provides Rolls Royce with access to top-notch academia, including institutions such as Indian Institute of Sciences and Indian Institute of Management⁶.

 

3 BRITANNIA

Britannia is one of India’s top food companies.

Britannia opened an R&D centre in Bengaluru in 2016². The 55,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art research and development centre at Bidadi entailed an investment of INR200crore/US$28.6 mn³.

The centre is home to analytical, sensory and microbiology labs. It also has production plants for its core product portfolio, that includes Biscuits, Bread, Cakes, Rusk, etc. among other things¹

The aim of the research and development centre is to accelerate product innovations in newer product categories⁴.

4 BOEING

While Boeing’s India headquarters in in Delhi, the Boeing India Engineering & Technology Centre (BIETC) is in Bangalore. BIETC was inaugurated in January 2017¹. It plays a key role in Boeing’s engineering growth in strong global Markets².

Boeing is also coming up with an engineering and technology campus in Bengaluru, Karnataka, which is touted to be the largest of its kind outside of the United States³. The world class aerospace engineering, R&D and manufacturing centre will conduct core engineering and research for Boeing’s iconic products and work on technologies that may redefine the future of flight⁴.

 

5 GENERAL ELECTRIC

GE’s first and largest ‘digital hub’ outside the United States is based in Bangalore, India¹.

The GE digital hub is spread over 200,000 sq. ft. home and is home to 2,500 technology professionals². The hub is helping GE deliver world-class solutions for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) to customers, making it easier for industrial companies to execute strategic digital transformation to promote internal productivity³.
